Target Field Information
Based in Minneapolis, Target Field is the new ballpark for the Minnesota Twins. The official opening took place on April 12, 2010. This spectacular multi-purpose facility is owned by Hennepin County, and was constructed at a cost of $390 million. The same firm that did the new Yankee Stadium, Populous, designed the venue. With a seating capacity of 40,000, the stadium is exclusive to the Twins. This is the sixth ballpark in franchise history, and is an open-air facility. There were plans to create a retractable roof, which was waived early on in its design.
With plans to host the MLB All-star Game in 2014, the Twins and their fans are extremely excited. The new stadium also honors several former Twins, including Kirby Puckett, Rod Carew, and the legendary Jackie Robinson. These are in the form of gates, numbered after retired players, and are truly a unique sight. With updated features and fine acoustics, Target Field will see the Twins battle teams from all around the league. From St. Paul to Mankato, the Twins have energized baseball fans throughout Minnesota.
Along with better field conditions, designers cultivated a full roof canopy. This soffit is currently the largest in baseball, and was created to protect fans from outside elements. A strong level of comfort was also instituted, including sturdier seats and warming shelters. This is especially important for younger fans and the elderly. An HD scoreboard also showcases top-notch visuals and impressive sound. There is a wide array of concessions stands, restrooms, and several accessible areas. As part of the upgrades, a mechanical logo will light up every time a Twin hits a home run.
The new Target Field also features public art and crafty designs. The stadium is located on 1 Twins Way, 3rd ave. N, between 5th St. N and 7th St. N. It is situated in downtown Minneapolis, and adjacent to a main highway. Twins fans can easily reach the venue through the transit network, or by vehicle. With ample parking and skyway lines, it is truly convenience at its finest. The surrounding areas will soon encompass a pedestrian bridge. The bridge will overlook Target Plaza, a social venue full of entertainment for all baseball fans. The stadium is also seeking 'green' certification, similar to the Washington Nationals Park.
In addition to the Target Corporation, the new field has received several endorsements. Although the seating capacity is a bit less then the Metrodome, the Twins finally have a facility they can call their own. Past stadiums do not compare to the simple, yet modernistic approach of Target Field. Its focus is on functionality, but also a place where fans can relax, network, and enjoy the Twins in action. The new stadium will also generate revenue for the city, and serve as a tourist attraction for all baseball aficionados. Minneapolis can be proud of its latest addition. Target Field is a great place to spend the day with family and friends.
